  • Too Much Rain

It won't stop raining, so I can't get anything done

    April15th

It has been raining almost every day, since I mowed my lawn on Sunday, so I can’t do anything outside.

I still have to mow mom’s lawn, and also cut down the rest of my ornamental grasses. But with all the rain, I can’t do either.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow, Sunday and Monday, then starting Tuesday it’s going to be nice but cooler.

But next Saturday it gets crappy again, and they are saying we might get some snow.

I hate the crazy weather in Ohio. First we have 5 to 6 months being stuck in the house, because of cold and snow, so you don’t want to go out. Then comes warmer weather, but with rain, and you can’t go out and get anything done.

    • New Trackpad

I got a new Apple Magic Trackpad

      April 13th

I got a new Apple Magic Trackpad 3 USB-C version today, for my 2020 iMac.

I was using an Apple Magic Trackpad 2, Lightning version with it, and an Apple Wireless Trackpad on my 2012 iMac, that’s powered by two rechargeable AA batteries.

But like the battery powered Apple Wireless Mouse and Keyboard, I replaced on it, I’m tired of having to take the batteries out to charge them.

I figured I would get an Apple Magic Trackpad USB-C version, for my 2020 iMac, and switch the Lightning version over to the 2012 iMac.

The Apple Magic Trackpad 3 (USB-C version) was on sale on Amazon for $1199.99. My local Best Buy had it in stock too, but they wanted $129.99 for it.

So I decided to go over to Best Buy, and have them match the Amazon price. They did and I was able to save the $10.00, and didn’t have to wait a day or two, for Amazon to deliver it.

Now I don't have any battery powered peripheral, on either Mac, and I can just plug in all the peripherals to charge them.

The USB-C version of the Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad, have slightly rounder corners, whereas the ones on the Lightning version are more square.

So the Magic Trackpad I got for the 2020 iMac today, perfectly matches the Magic Keyboard I got for it, a couple of weeks ago.

And I like not having to take the batteries out of any of my peripherals, to charge them.

    • First Mow

I mowed my lawn for the first time

      April 12th

I mowed my lawn for the first time today. But before I could start, I had to pick up all the branches and sticks in the front yard.

That took me an hour and a half, because a lot came down through the winter.

Once I got that done I was able to mow. I really enjoyed it too because it was a beautiful day, and was nice to get outside and do something again.

Now I need to pick up branches and mow the lawn, at mom’s house. But I may have to wait until next week though, because it’s supposed to rain almost every day this week.

I'm sure glad the weather, is finally getting nice. I hate being stuck in the house, and would rather be outside, because it makes me feel better.

I can also start moving things over to mom's house.

    • Working Good

The site is working pretty good

      April 10th

The website is working good, for the most part. I'm having a problem seeing some changes, right after I publish them, but I believe that’s more of a browser cache problem, and they show up shortly after.

I had the same problem when my site was hosted on StartLogic, but when I moved over to Chillidog, they pretty much showed up instantly. Maybe it will work itself out at some point, but it's not a big deal.

    • Migration Complete

The website has been migrated to the new servers

      April 9th

The website was migrated over to Exact Hosting servers yesterday.

It happened between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern time, and that was a pain, because I usually work on it in the morning.

It was up most of the day, but about 3:00 PM there was a message saying down for maintenance. That must be when my site was being moved.

I had a doctor appointment, and didn’t get back until around 6:45 PM. But when I checked it was up, and so far it's working good.

I had to change the incoming and outgoing server, in the mail client, on all my devices, so I could get the website email.

That took a little time, but wasn’t too bad, and I am getting the website email like I should be.

Now I hope the price for the hosting and my domain registration doesn’t increase.

I don't want to have to find a new hosting company, and go through moving everything again, because it's a lot of work.

    • Doctor Appointment

I had a doctor appointment today to get referrals

      April 8th

I had an appointment with my PHP today. It was originally scheduled for July 17th, but since I’m on Medicare now, I went over on March 30th, to try to get it sooner, and they change it to today.

Medicare requires a referral from your PHP, to see a specialist, and I have an appointment scheduled for May 11th with my rheumatologist, and one with my cardiologist in November. So I needed one for my rheumatologist right away.

I also went to my rheumatologist’s office on March 30th, because I’m not going to be able to get help paying for my Enbrel.

They gave me a form on my last visit to try to get help, but at the top it said you’re not eligible if you have insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid.

So they told me to get the referral, and they would get me in to see the doctor sooner than May.

The copay for the Enbrel will be almost $1,000.00 a month, and there’s no way I can afford that, so I’m trying to figure out what to do.

My PHP is submitting referrals for my rheumatologist and cardiologist. Then hopefully I will be able to see my rheumatologist soon, so he can figure out what to do.

Several years ago, when I had to stop takin Humira, my arthritis came back with a vengeance quick, and I don't want that to happen again.

Medicare has a real learning curve, but as soon as I've been on it for a while, I'm sure it will be easier.

    • Notification

I added a popup up notification to the website today

      April 7h

I added a popup up notification to the website, to let people know that tomorrow it will be going through a migration process.

I probably should have put it up a day sooner, but just though of it today.

      Here’s what it says.

      Important Notice

(Note: You may have to scroll, to read this message on mobile devices)

On Wednesday April 8, 2026 between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern time, the website will be migrated over to the hosting service, that acquired the one it's on now.

I'm not sure if it will affect using the site, during the migration, and you may see old or cached pages, for several hours afterward.

I will also not be able to update the website, during the migration. So things may get behind for a day, but hopefully no longer than that.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but due to the acquisition, it is out of my control.

You can hide this message after reading it, by clicking the "X" at the upper right.

Hopefully the migration will go smoothly, without any issues, and my website will be back to normal on April 9th.

    • Website Migration

The website will be migrated over to new servers

      April 6th

I got an email today telling me, that my website is going to be migrated over to the new servers.

In February I got an email from my website hosting service, telling me that Chillidog Hosting, had been acquired by Exact Hosting.

Even though the hosting service was acquired then, the website was still on Chillidog's servers, up until now. But that's about to change.

On Wednesday April 8, 2026 between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern time, the website will be migrated over to Exact Hosting's servers.

I'm not sure if it will affect using the site, during the migration, and you may see old or cached pages, for several hours afterward.

Also I will not be able to update the website, during the migration. So things may get behind for a day, but hopefully no longer than that.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but due to the acquisition, it is out of my control.

I also hope everything goes smoothly, without any issues, and the website will be back to normal on April 9th.

    • Easter

      I spent Easter with mom

      April 5th

I went to mom’s house today for Easter, and mom and I were the only ones there this year.

Instead of having ham like mom usually makes, we decided to make corned beef, cabbage and potatoes. We also had some barbecued wings, along with it.

I really didn't miss having ham, but she didn't make her pickled eggs and beets this year either, and I did miss that.

Everything was delicious, but it was another holiday without Joyce, and our second Easter without dad.

    • Sump Pump Outlet

I got the stuff, for the sump pump outlet

      April 3rd

When Ohio State Waterproofing installed the sump pump at mom's, they told us we need to put in a dedicated outlet with a GFCI, for it So I went out and picked up the stuff we needed to do it today.

I got a 50 foot roll of 12/2 Romex® NM-B wire, and a 15-Amp GFCI outlet, and cover plate at Menards. I try to get everything at Menards, because the prices are usually lower, and you also get an 11% rebate.

We also needed a 20-Amp 1/2” circuit breaker, but I had to get that at Home Depot. My brother is going to install the outlet, and he wanted me to get a GE circuit breaker, because the panel box is GE, but Menards doesn’t carry them.

When I paid for the breaker at Home Depot, I gave the girl a $20 dollar bill, but she only gave me $1.50 back in change. I told her I gave her a $20 dollar bill and she said I gave her a $10. But she checked her drawer, and saw that I did give her a $20 dollar bill.

Then instead of having me go to the service desk to return and re-purchase it, she figure it out on her phone, then gave me back more change.

After I left I went over to BJ’s and thought, she may have given me too much. So I tried to check, but I wasn’t sure.

Everything was in the back of the car, so I thought I'd figure it out, when I got to mom’s, and looked at the receipts.

When I got to mom's and checked, I didn’t have the Home Depot receipt. I gave it to the girl to figure out the change I should have gotten, and she must not have given it back to me.

I didn’t notice at the time either, because I was just frustrated with the whole thing. So I hope the circuit breaker works, because I can’t return it without the receipt.

And from what I could figure out, she gave me back $5 or $6 dollars too much. The circuit breaker was a little over $8 with tax, so I'm not worried about it.

If it doesn't work, which is unlikely, we can just get another one, with the extra money she gave me.

    • Still Dry

The the basement is still dry

      April 2nd

I checked mom’s basement again today, and it was dry. We got a lot of rain after I left yesterday, so the waterproofing and sump pump are working good.

There was a small hole in the new concrete, where washtub sink is supposed to be.

The sink is not in place, because the concrete isn't fully set, and it was caused by a dripping faucet.

The hole isn't very deep, and I hung a bucket on the faucets, so it won't get any worse.

I can patch it later, so it’s no big deal, but it sure is nice to have a dry basement.

Now I just have to wait for the concrete to set, so I can put things back, and arrange the basement how I want it to be.

    • It’s Done

They're done with the basement waterproofing

      April 1st

They finished doing the waterproofing on mom’s basement today.

When I went over this morning, they were pouring the concrete in the trench. I asked the supervisor if the basement was wet, with all the rain overnight, and he told me there was water in the trench, but the floor was dry.

They had to finish the piping this morning, so the sump pump wasn’t running overnight. But it was working when I got there, and he said as soon as they got it running, it started pumping it out. All I saw was a little bit of water, in the trench, in the back corner of the basement.

My plan was to come back this afternoon before they left, to go over everything, and I wanted to be there for the final payment.

But I wasn’t sure when to come back, so I asked the supervisor how long it would take to finish.

He told me about an hour and a half, to finish the work. Then they would have to clean everything up, and load things back in the truck. So I decided to stay until they were done.

When they finished and were cleaning everything up outside, it started raining pretty hard. It rained the whole time, and didn’t slow down until they left.

We did the final paperwork, and they had to call the company, so a representative could speak with us. They asked about the work the guys did, and if we were happy with it. They also went over the lifetime warranty with us, and about being able to transfer it.

I told the girl we spoke to, that the guys did a great job. That they were very polite and respectful of the property. And the supervisor Nate, went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with how everything was done.

When they left I went down to the basement, to see if it was dry. With all the rain we got while they were cleaning up and we did the paperwork, I wanted to be sure. And to my surprise, it was completely dry.

As I was coming up the stairs, mom was there, and said she didn’t give them the final check. Thankfully Nate gave me his business card before he left, so I called and told him.

He said they were up town eating lunch, and as soon as they were done, he would stop back to get it.

So the basement is done now and it’s dry. We’re supposed to get a lot more rain this evening, so hopefully it will be dry when I go over tomorrow.

There is one bad thing though. It takes he concrete 4 to 6 weeks, to be fully set, so I can’t put anything back until mid May.

That includes the washer and dryer, so mom won’t be able to wash cloths at home until then.

    • Coming Along

The basement waterproofing is coming along

      March 31st

They got quite a bit of the basement waterproofing done already. They started yesterday and by 4:00 PM, they had most of the outside done, and a good part of the trench cut, for the sump pump piping on the inside.

After they left, my brother and I took the basement shower out. They cut the trench around it, but I was worried about the wall behind it.

So I spoke to the supervisor, and asked hm if I took the shower out, would he break up the concert slab it was on and remove it, then re-cut the trench next to the wall, like the rest of the basement.

He told me no problem, and that he would even haul away the old shower for me.

I went over this morning so mom could go to the bank, and get the check for the final payment.

I spoke to the supervisor and we did a walk around, so he could show me everything they did yesterday. I also talked to him about a few other concerns I had, and he’s going to take care of it.

Then I went back over this afternoon and the sump pump was in, along with most of piping, the river rock, and the wall guard.

Tomorrow they’re going to finish the piping and put concrete over the entire trench. They are also going to finish the sump pump piping on the outside, and pull out the outside back steps, to do that wall.

I think that’s all they have left to do, and I’m going back over in the morning, to talk to the supervisor again.

Then I'll go back before they leave to go over things, and give them the final payment.

    • New Keyboard

I got a new Apple Magic Keyboard

      March 30th

I got a new Apple Magic Keyboard 3 USB-C version today, for my 2020 iMac.

I was using an Apple Magic Keyboard 2, which was the Lightning version with it, and an Apple Wireless Keyboard on my 2012 iMac, that is powered by two rechargeable AA batteries.

But I’m tired of having to take the batteries out of the keyboard to charge them, just like the battery powered Magic Mouse, I was previously using with the 2012 iMac.

So I figured I’d get a new Apple Magic Keyboard for my 2020 iMac, and switch the Apple Magic Keyboard 2, over to the 2012 iMac.

The Apple Magic Keyboard 3 (USB-C version) was on sale on Amazon for $79.99. My local Best Buy had it in stock too, but they wanted $99.99 for it.

So I decided to go over to Best Buy, and have them match the Amazon price. They did and I was able to save the $20.00, and I didn’t have to wait a day or two, for Amazon to deliver it.

Now I have eliminated having to take the batteries out of the mouse and keyboard, on the 2012 iMac, to charge them.

The only battery powered device left on it now, is a Apple Wireless Trackpad, and I may replace that someday too.

    • Basement Prep

I needed to do some basement prep work

      March 29th

I went to mom’s house, to do some prep work in the basement. They are starting on the waterproofing tomorrow, and there was a few things I had to do.

The main thing was to spray the mold on the walls, with a white vinegar and water mixture. But the only empty tank sprayer there wouldn't work, so I wasn’t able to do it.

I also had to remove the bottom boards on the big wall shelf, so they could get under it to cut the floor, and sweep up the loose paint, that was under the strip of carpet we removed.

I was able to get both of those things done, so it's as ready as can be for the waterproofing.

    • Remembering Mogwai

Today makes 11 years since Mogwai died

      Stacks Image 93873

      March 28th

It was eleven years ago today on March 28, 2015, our beloved dog Mogwai passed away. Mogwai was much more than just a dog, he truly was a friend.

When he looked at you with those beautiful eyes, it was really something special. And he had more love in his heart, than you could possibly ever imagine.

I think about him all the time, and just how special he was. Just being near him made you feel like you were with one of Gods greatest creations. And the years we had to spend with him, were some of the best years of our lives.

He died after Joyce got home from work, and I know he waited for her. Because he passed away a short time later, and we were both by his side.

I don’t think anything will ever fill the hole, left in our hearts from losing him. And there will never be another dog like him.

Mogwai passed away on a Saturday, and our Vet was closed. So we had to wait until Monday, to take him there to be cremated.

We stood in the garage, and said our last goodbyes. Then Joyce put the tote he was in, into the car, and took him away.

I guess it was his funeral of sorts. It wasn't much, but it was the last time to be with our little buddy.

The day after Mogwai died I wrote a poem for him, and I posted it below, if you'd like to read it.

      Precious Mogwai

Mogwai when you died; a part of us died too.
Now there's something missing in our lives; being here without you.

You were truly very special; and it breaks our hearts to see you go.
But we will never, ever, forget you buddy; we just want you to know.

    • New Remote

I got a my mom a remote for her Apple TV

      March 27th

I went to Walmart and got a my mom a remote for her Apple TV. The Apple TV I gave her came with the 1st Generation Apple TV Siri Remote, with the glass touch-sensitive surface, and she was having a hard time using it.

So I got her the Xtreme Universal Apple TV Remote, which controls the Apple TV and your television.

The remote was $9.99, and it has oversized buttons for navigation, and dedicated power, volume, and mute buttons, that work with most major TV brands.

I also picked up a couple gallons of white vinegar, to spray the mold on her basement walls.

The remote works good, and will be easier for her.

    • A Lot of Rain

We got way too much rain today

      March 26th

It was sunny and 75º today, then about 6:00 PM it started to rain.

It rained all night, and into early morning, and we even had a couple of severe warnings for our area.

But neither one of the warnings amounted to much, other than a lot rain.

On a bright note, I got another ornamental grass cut down, before it started raining.

    • One Grass Done

I cut down one of my ornamental grasses

      March 25th

I got one of my ornamental grasses cut down today. I usually cut them down in late March or early April, before the new grass starts to grow.

I started with the smallest one, and it has a stack stone wall around it. So I have to take the top two layers of stones off to cut it, then put them back when I’m done.

But since I’m moving soon and taking the stone with me, I removed them all, and stacked them on my patio.

I still have five more to do, and it’s a lot of work. I normally cut them down with a hedge trimmer, but it doesn’t always work.

The grass sticks are thick, there’s a ton of them in a single grass plant, and most of my plants are about 6 foot wide, and 8 foot tall or more.

A hedge trimmer wasn’t made for doing it, but it’s the best way I found to get it done.

After I get them cut I have to put the sticks in piles and tie them up, because that’s the best way for me to carry the bundles to the burn pile.

I can only get one or two done in a day, so it's going to take me several days to get them done. Plus with the rain and snow this time of year, and other things I need do, it could take a week or more to finish.

    • Cut Down Shrubs

I cut down some shrubs at mom’s

      March 24th

I cut down three shrubs on the side of mom’s house today. They were actually more like trees, because two of them were 8 to 10 feet tall.

They were there when we moved into the house in the early 1960s. So they are pretty old, but there wasn’t anything wrong with them.

There are two reasons I cut them down. The first is, they are going to start the basement waterproofing Monday, and I didn't want them in the way.

The second reason is they were getting too tall, and were hard to trim, so I figured it was time they go.

After I move in and get settled over there, I’d like to put a flower bed where the shrubs were.

I got all three cut down, and I drug them over to the yard, on the other side of the driveway. I put one by the road, so they will pick it up, when they start the spring clean up.

I put the other two further back in the yard, because I need to cut them up. Then once they pick the first one up, I’ll start putting the others by the road.

It looks bare on that side now, but when I get the flower bed done, it will look really nice.

    • Spilled Some Pills

I knocked over a bottle of my medications

      March 23rd

My day started off bad, first thing this morning. I got up started my coffee, and took the dogs out. When I got back in, I went to take my morning medications. I opened the first bottle, took a pill out, and knocked it over somehow.

Most off the pills dumped out on the bar, but quite a few fell on the floor. It was one of my blood pressure medications and it’s really small, so small that I can hardly pick it up. When I get it there are 270 pills in the bottle, but I’ve been using it for a while.

It would be hard to count them, and since I had no idea how many were left, it wouldn’t do much good.

So I picked up the pills on the bar, then got down on the floor, and got the ones I could see. And as I was getting off the stool to go down on the floor, some pills even fell out of my sleeves.

I moved everything on the floor in the area where they fell, and checked under it. I also checked in the dog’s food and water bowls. I think I got all of them, but wasn't sure, so I checked every time I went in the kitchen.

The good thing is, the dogs were outside when it happened. Otherwise they both would have come running into the kitchen, like they do every time I drop something, and may have eaten some of the pills.

I just hope I found all the pills on the floor, because I’m sure it would be bad, if a dog ate blood pressure medication.

I will have to keep my eyes on them for the next few days, watching for any symptoms. And I'll also keep checking the floor, every time I go in the kitchen.

    • Catching Up

I got behind, and had to catch up

      March 21st

I had to do quite a bit of catching up on the website today. The calling hours for my brother-in-law was on Thursday, and the funeral was Friday, and I was busy with that.

So I got way behind on the website, and it took me most of the day to catch up. But everything is up to date now, and I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused.

      Today was Jim Stacy's funeral

      March 20th

Yesterday mom and I went to the calling hours, for my brother-in-law Jim Stacy. A lot of people showed up, and I got to talk to some I haven’t seen in years.

His funeral was today, and we went together again. There were quite a few people there too, and it was a nice service for him.

When the service was over, we drove in the funeral procession to the cemetery, where the pastor spoke the last words for Jim.

Military honors followed, with the playing of "Taps,” a gun salute, and the presentation of the U.S. flag and shell casings, to his wife Jan.

After we left the cemetery, we went to Jim and Jan’s church, to eat and socialize. There was a lot of great food, and everyone had a good time.

Although it was a sad day, I believe it also gave his family some comfort, being with family and friends who loved and knew him.
